UPSC

The Civil Services serve as the backbone of the governance structure of our nation. Right from the time we achieved independence, the civil services have played a vital role in the task of nation building and national development.

The Civil Services Examination is conducted by UPSC every year.
The examination consists of two stages

  1.  the Preliminary Examination.
  2. the Main Examination (Written and Interview).

No. IAS and IPS are All India Services, whereas others fall under two categories ? Group A & Group B Central Services

Any service is considered better based on the certain reasons. Among them some are as follows

The services are allocated based on the final Rank the candidate had secured, Preferences of services executed by the candidate, Category of the candidate and Vacancy of the Post.

The candidate must hold a degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.

Yes. For Civil Services Exams, the candidate is eligible since the UPSC has not specified the mode of acquiring the degree.

Candidate possessing only a Diploma is not eligible, however if the candidate had done graduation after Diploma he is eligible.

To appear in the exam the minimum age is 21 years on 1st August, on that year. The upper age limit depends upon the category to which you belong. If you belong to

  1.  General Category, the upper age limit is 32 years.
  2.  Other Backward Classes, it is 35 years.
  3.  SC/ST category, upper age limit is 37 years.

For special categories, the age relaxations (from 32 years) are as follows

  1.  Blind, deaf-mute and Orthopaedically handicapped persons : 10 years.
  2.  Blind, deaf-mute and Orthopaedically handicapped persons + SC/ST : 15 years.
  3.  Blind, deaf-mute and Orthopaedically handicapped persons + OBC : 13 years.
  4.  Defence Services Personnel disabled in operations : 3 years.
  5.  Defence Services Personnel + SC/ST : 8 years.
  6.  Defence Services Personnel + OBC : 6 years.
  7.  Ex-Servicemen including Commissioned Officers : 5 years.
  8.  Ex-Servicemen including Commissioned officers + SC/ST : 10 years.
  9.  Ex-Servicemen including Commissioned officers + OBC : 8 years.

No. Generally, any one below the age of 32 years can attempt 6 times. If you belong to

  1.  Other Backward Classes, you get 3 more attempts.
  2.  SC/ST category, there is no limit in the number of attempts you can make.

The Civil Services Examination will consist of two successive stages

  1.  Civil Services Preliminary Exams.
  2.  Civil Services Main Examination.
  3.  Personality Test.
  1.  Civil Services Preliminary Examination: (Objective type) for the selection of candidates for the Main Examination; and
  2.  Civil Services Main Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the various Services and posts Preliminary Screening test is only of qualifying nature and the scored in Preliminary Examination will not be taken for ranking Candidates have to go in accordance to the stages in the exam. In the same cycle of the year of exam, candidate should get qualified in all the stages. If the candidate gets disqualified in any of the stages, the candidate should reappear in the preliminary examination next year.

TNPSC

Applications for all TNPSC examinations can be made ONLY through online mode. The applications can be filled at http://tnpscexams.net

It is not necessary to send a print out of online application.

Not necessary. Only the shortlisted candidates will be asked to do so.

  2.  Offline payment through designated Post offices and Bank branches in the State as specified in the Notification.

The minimum age limit is 18 years (otherwise as stated in the Commission’s Notification).

Yes. If so, the letter evidencing equivalence of qualification can be obtained from the University which awarded the degree to the candidates.

Yes. Candidates who do not possess an adequate knowledge in Tamil may also apply. If selected, they should pass the Second Class Language Test (Full Test) in Tamil within a period of two year from the date of their appointment, failing which they will be discharged from service.

    III (B). Recruitment to all technical posts within the purview of the Commission.

The stages involved in respect of recruitments made by the Commission are as follows:

  1.  Selections to lower level posts.
    Only by written examination
    The written examination is conducted in OMR method which is objective in nature(with multiple choice type questions). The answer papers are evaluated through computers and the marks of all candidates are published in TNPSC website. The details regarding their overall rank and rank in their respective communal category are also provided for that particular recruitment in respect of each candidate. The details of distribution of vacancies are also hosted by the Commission. The candidate, by correlating the ranking given as above, with the no. of vacancies in his / her communal category, may know the status of his/her selection. After this process, Counselling is being conducted in the Commission’s Office for the posts included in VAO, Group IV & Group II A.
  2.  Selections to Middle level posts.
    By written examination and oral test
    For the recruitment of middle level posts, there will be a written examination and an Oral Test. The written examination will be followed by the oral test. (Combined Engineering Services and Assistant Public Prosecutor etc.,). In these examinations, the candidates are admitted to written examination purely on the basis of claims given in their online application. The selections are made by the above method in respect of technical posts also. The maximum marks prescribed for written examination and oral test are being mentioned in the notification. The examination shall be of objective or descriptive type as the case may be.
    Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission goes by the candidates claims made in their online applications and admits them to written examination. But when the documents in support of their claims in the online applications are being called for, lot of variations, misinformations etc., have been found out by the Commission. After due verification, the proper ranking is arrived by deleting the ineligible candidates and candidates are admitted provisionally to the oral test based on the number of vacancies in each category at the ratio of 1:2 / 1:3 in each communal category. This is finalised / done purely on basis of merit.
  3.  For Selections to Higher Posts.
    The selection which carries higher scale of pay and duties and responsibilities are made with three stages of selection. It is done in cases of selections / recruitments for Group I, Group IC & Group II Services.
    1.  Preliminary Examination
      In respect of preliminary examination, all the eligible candidates are admitted purely on the basis of the particulars given by them in their online applications. This examination consists of Objective type comprising of multiple choice type Questions, which are to be answered in OMR sheets. After the evaluation of the preliminary examination answer sheets, the candidates are admitted to appear for the Main Examination at the ratio 1:50 i.e., for one post in each reserved category, 50 candidates are admitted to the Main Written Examination on the basis of marks obtained by them in the preliminary examination or at the ratio as fixed by the Commission. However, in each reservation group, all the candidates who secure the same marks as that of the cut off marks of their reservation group shall also be admitted to the Main Written Examination and hence at times it may exceed 1:50 ratio. The marks obtained in Preliminary Examination will not be taken into account for further process of selection.
    2.  Main Written Examination
      The Main Written Examination comprises of Objective and/or Descriptive Type. It comprises of more than one paper depending on the nature of the job. Appearance in all the papers is compulsory. The main examinations are mostly in descriptive nature and the evaluation of Answer Sheets takes place more than once to eliminate the scope of errors.
    3.  Oral Test
      Based on the marks obtained in the Main written Examination, the candidates are selected for admission to oral test at the ratio of 1:3 where the vacancy in a particular communal category is 4 and below, & 1:2 when the vacancy is 5 and above.

If any candidate has objections over any tentative Answer key, he/she can mail / write by post the objections with grounds and evidences for such objection within one week. Such objections to keys are placed before an Expert Committee and keys are finalised. Based on the final key the answer papers are evaluated.

Candidates who write the examinations have the following right after the entire selection process is over and results are published.

  1.  In objective type (OMR Sheet), the candidate on application, may get a copy of his/her OMR sheet free of cost.
  2.  In Descriptive type of Examination, the candidates are allowed to peruse his/her answer paper in the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission office.
  3.  The candidates are permitted to copy the marks awarded to them for each question in first and second evaluation.
  4.  This will help the candidates to confirm the genuineness and correctness of Evaluation of his/her Answer paper and ensure that all the answers are evaluated.

SMS is being sent to all candidates by the Commission to those whose applications have been admitted finally that their Hall ticket is available in the Commission’s website and it can be downloaded. Likewise SMS is being sent to all the candidates who have been admitted to oral test.

BANKING

The candidates are requested to refer to the relevant clause of the advertisement available on the official IBPS website for the same.

There is no general enrollment system in IBPS. Candidates can only apply to posts in Participating Organizations in response to posts advertised for, on the official IBPS website.

Candidates are required to submit documents as per IBPS format as per the terms and conditions mentioned in the advertisement /Interview call letter.

IBPS does not come under the purview of RTI Act, 2005.

The candidates are requested to refer to the relevant clause of the advertisement available on official IBPS website for the same.

SSC

The Staff Selection Commission conducts Combined Examinations every year. Some of these examinations are Multi tier and some are Single tier.
Multi Tier Examination

  1.  Combined Graduate Level Examination (Tier-I, Tier-II, Computer Proficiency Test, Interview (No interview for the Posts of Tax Assistant/ UDCs/ Accountants).
  2.  Combined Higher Secondary Level (Written, skill test).
  3.  CPO (written, physical efficiency test & medical followed by interview).
  4.  Junior Engineer (Civil & Electrical)(written followed by interview).
  5.  Junior Hindi Translator (CSOLS) (written followed by interview).
  6.  Junior Hindi Translator (for Subordinate offices) (written followed by interview).

Single Tier Examination

  1.  Multi Tasking Staff Examination.

The age limits are different for different posts and are to be confirmed from the Notice of examination published in the Employment News/ Rozgar Samachar.
Generally, the age limits are 18 to 27 years on the crucial date.
The age concession in the upper age limit for SC/STs is 5 years, for OBCs it is 3 years and for physically handicapped candidates it is 10 years.
For widows, divorced women and judicially separated women, the age limit is 35 years for UR category; 40 years for SC/ST women and 38 years for OBC women.
The Notice of examinations may be consulted regarding age relaxations for Ex-servicemen and Central Government Civilian Employee (CGCE) candidates.

The SSC conducts open examinations regularly for posts for which a large number of vacancies exist, some of these are;

  1.  Combined Graduate level [Assistant Grade, Auditors/ Jr.Accountants/ Upper Division Clerks, Divisional Accountants, Inspectors of Income Tax/ Central Excise, and CBI, Section Officer (Commercial) and Section Officer (Audit), Tax Assistant in Income Tax/ Central Excise].
  2.  Combined Higher Secondary level [Lower Division Clerks], CPO (Central Police Organisations) examination for recruitment of Sub-Inspectors in CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, Stenographer Grade 'C', Stenographer Grade 'D' Examination, Junior Engineers (Civil & Mechanical) Examination, Multi Tasking Staff Examination etc.
  3.  Direct Interviews/ Skill Tests are held for isolated specialized posts, called Selection Posts, after inviting applications through advertisements, as and when such vacancies are reported to the Commission by various govt. departments/ ministries/ offices.

Yes, provided it is a recognized University/ Institution and he/she possesses the educational qualifications prescribed for the examination and is otherwise eligible.

Women, Scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, physically handicapped and Ex-servicemen candidates are exempted from payment of fees.

RRB

No. Candidates, whose academic qualifications are complete, should apply for RRB post.

Yes, women are encouraged to apply for railways. But some job profiles are strenuous and can’t be suitable for women.

You will be considered for the vacancies of the post of the particular RRB you have applied.

No. Regional language will never be a problem for any candidates.

Candidates must pass the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) which is mandatory for some jobs in Railways. Eligible candidates who are selected based on the performance in the Written Examination will be called for Physical Efficiency Test (PET). A separate letter mentioning the date, time and venue will be communicated to the eligible candidates. Based on the gender, separate tests will be organised. Male Candidates should be able to run for a distance of 1000 metres in 4 minutes and 15 seconds in one chance. Female Candidates should be able to run for a distance of 400 metres in 3 minutes and 10 seconds in one chance.

Once the application is submitted, Primary Registration and the Registration Number are generated. These details cannot be modified immediately. So, one has to complete the full registration and finally choose the "Modify Application" option from the main page of the website and make changes in any of the details (except for email-id) or apply to another RRB altogether. However, if you have not activated the email link and the Registration Number has ‘NOT BEEN GENERATED’, you can enter your Primary Registration again with the correct details.

During the second stage of the Online Registration, candidates can choose up to five cities for the exam. RRB management will make efforts to allot your exam centre in one of these five options. However, in case of any exigency, RRB reserves the right to allot the exam centre in any other city also.

Yes. Candidates with 12 years of schooling through an examination conducted by a Board/University or students passed an entrance test conducted by the university. Besides, candidates who are under 18 years of age as on 1st July of the year of admission to the course are not eligible.

The main purpose of psychometric tests are assessments conducted to evaluate the overall candidate performance which includes personality traits, knowledge, skills, attitudes, abilities, and potential for the job being applied to.

Aptitude Tests, Behavioral Tests and Assessment Centre Exercises are the most important Psychometric tests Aptitude tests help in measuring cognitive abilities such as numeracy, literacy skills, spatial awareness. Behavioral Tests measures suitability for particular job roles carried out by using tests for leadership, situational judgment tests, personality questionnaires and motivation tests. Assessment centre exercises in measuring job specific skills using simulation through various exercises in the professional environment.

SSC/Matric certificate in proof of the candidate's date of birth, Provisional/Final degree, Diploma, ITI/Apprenticeship certificates, Certificates issued by Intermediate boards, state boards or CBSE. Community certificates in the format laid down in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC communities. Discharge certificate in case of ex-servicemen.

Not required. It is sufficient if the candidate produces the originals of the certificates, copies of which would have been enclosed with the application.

No. The Railway Recruitment Board retains only attested copies of the certificates. The candidates should never leave their original certificates (including community certificates) with the Railway Recruitment Board. In exceptional cases where malpractices or forgeries are suspected, the original certificates can be collected for verification purpose. In such cases, proper acknowledgements should be demanded and obtained.
